Fines for Blue Badge Holders parking on double yellow lines incorrectly are being issued more commonly. As a result, many Blue Badge Holders report staying well clear of them because they can be trouble. We thought it might be helpful to pull together the facts for you so you can avoid any unnecessary worry or even parking tickets!
Broadly speaking, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland you may park on double yellow lines for up to three hours if it is safe to do so but not within 15 metres of a junction or where there are restrictions on loading or unloading – indicated by yellow kerb dashes and/or signs on plates. Remember when parking on any time restrictions such as double yellow lines, your Timer Clock (included with Blue Badge Protector’s Double Blue Badge Protector) must be correctly displayed. In Scotland you are allowed to park on double yellow lines and there is no time limit applied, but your Blue Badge must still be clearly displayed.

I say broadly speaking because some London Boroughs (City of London, Kensington & Chelsea, Camden and Westminster) have their own schemes, which are interchangeable and interoperable in part. For example, in all of the aforementioned boroughs you cannot park on double yellow lines at any time. Normal Blue Badge concessions do not apply in these cases. Large cities often have ‘local’ rules so If you’re unsure, please always check with the local authorities before you leave.
